Refacing Your Kitchen Cabinets
Refacing your kitchen cabinets is a great, cost-effective way to add value to your home. It can make your kitchen look more updated and high-end, and typically costs far less than replacing the cabinets altogether.

If you're tackling other home remodeling projects at the same time, kitchen cabinet refacing will help keep your renovation budget in tact!
What Is Cabinet Refacing?
Cabinet refacing consists of installing new doors, new drawers, and covering the cabinet with a wood or plastic veneer to give it a new style and look. The cabinet box that is anchored to the wall does not get replaced. A typical refacing job can take a few days to finish, however, this is dependent on how many cabinets you have.

Some adventurous DIY types have taken on this project by themselves, but we advise using a professional builder or remodeler to ensure your project goes off without a hitch. If you're having trouble finding the right contractor for the job, click here for recommendations on making your decision.
When NOT To Reface Your Cabinets
Refacing your cabinets might not always be the solution your kitchen remodeling project needs. For example, if the layout of your kitchen is an issue, making them pretty with new cabinets won't solve your problem. Refacing usually only makes sense if you are looking for an aesthetic upgrade to your current design. It doesn't make sense to put lipstick on a pig!
Also, if the cabinet boxes in your kitchen are worn out, broken and/or in bad shape — refacing would not be advisable. Again, an aesthetic upgrade like refacing will only work if there are no issues with the base cabinet durability.
